Arrival and Dismissal Process

Morning Arrival

All student arrival period is between 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Any student arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be marked tardy for the day.
 
Early Childhood (Preschool, PreK, JrK, and Kindergarten) Student Arrival
  • Preschool, PreK/JrK, and Kindergarten students must use the Forbes Avenue entrance.
  • Early Childhood students will be greeted at the Forbes door by members of the Faculty, and then escorted to the gymnasium or their classroom. Caretakers and family members dropping students off will not enter the Lobby.
  • Kindergarten students arriving by bus at the Darlington entrance will wait in the auditorium on the stage and be escorted to their classroom at 8:00 a.m.
  • The Forbes Avenue entrance will close at 8:15 a.m. At this time, children will be required to enter through the Darlington entrance where they will be checked in and escorted to their classroom.
 
Students in 1st through 8th Grade
  • All students in 1st through 4th Grade will arrive through the Darlington Road entrance and go to the Auditorium. At 8:00 a.m., students will be dismissed from the auditorium to their classrooms.
  • Students in 5th through 8th Grades will arrive through the Darlington Road entrance and may head to their locker or Advisory classroom.
 
Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. must be pre-arranged
  • If your student will be late due to an appointment, you will need to share your plans with their homeroom teacher and Rachel Roupp, Community Relations Associate.
  • ALL students arriving after 8:15 a.m. are to enter the building through the main entrance doors of the school on Darlington Road. This includes Early Childhood students.
  • Students will be checked in and escorted to their classroom.

Afternoon Dismissal

Early Childhood Half-Day Dismissal – 12:00 p.m.
  • For Preschool and PreK students registered for the half-day program, adults will park in the reserved short-term parking spaces outside of the Forbes Avenue entrance. A teacher will escort students outside the Forbes Lobby at 12 p.m. to meet their parent or approved pick-up guardian.

WALKERS
Early Childhood Walkers with Parent Escort – 3:15 p.m.
  • Early Childhood students whose parents are picking them up to be walked home will be dismissed from the Forbes Avenue entrance. Students will be escorted outside by an Associate teacher.
Upper School Walkers without Parent Escort – 3:25 p.m.
  • Older students who have permission to walk home without a parent escort will be dismissed by their teacher and exit the building from the Darlington Road entrance.
Lower School & Upper School Walkers with Parent Escort – 3:25 p.m.
  • Lower School & Upper School students whose parents are picking them up to be walked home, will be dismissed from the Darlington Road entrance. These students will congregate in the auditorium before dismissal.

CARLINE
Dashboard placards will be provided to students on the first day of school. All Carline vehicles must place their placard on their dash for safety and security purposes.

Early Childhood Carline | Church of the Redeemer Side – beginning at 3:15 p.m.
  • All families with Early Childhood students and their older siblings:
    • Will use the Church of the Redeemer side of the school (the driveway before the school building, as you come up Darlington.)
    • Families with children ONLY in Early Childhood (Preschool, PreK, Jr. K, and Kindergarten) will be admitted beginning at 3:15 to start loading students.
    • Families with children in Early Childhood AND older siblings will be admitted beginning at 3:25.
  • The line will flow from Darlington Road to Forbes Avenue. Students will be loaded into cars off the Playdeck.
  • If Carline is backed up, cars that arrive before buses have been dismissed may be asked to go around the block to avoid back-up onto Darlington.
Lower School and Upper School Carline | JCC Side from 3:30 p.m. – 3:40 p.m.
  • All families with students in 1st – 8th Grades:
    • Will use the JCC side of the school (the driveway after the school building, as you come up Darlington.)
    • Families will be admitted beginning at 3:25.
  • Carline will flow from Darlington Road to Forbes Avenue. Students will be loaded into cars off the Playdeck.
  • If Carline is backed up, cars that arrive before buses have been dismissed may be asked to go around the block to avoid back-up onto Darlington.
 
BUS RIDERS
Students Taking a Bus – 3:30 p.m.
  • Students taking a bus will be loaded from the gymnasium for Forbes Avenue busing and from the Darlington Road entrance for Darlington Road busing.

Key Items of Note:

  • The Forbes Avenue entrance to St. Edmund’s Academy will be the designated arrival entrance for students in Preschool, PreKindergarten and Kindergarten.
  • The Darlington Road entrance to St. Edmund’s Academy will be the designated arrival entrance for students in 1st – 8th Grade.
  • For arrival and dismissal, the Church of the Redeemer driveway will be used as a one-way driveway flowing from Darlington Road to Forbes Avenue only.
  • The JCC driveway will also remain a one-way driveway, flowing from Darlington to Forbes, and will be signed accordingly.
  • The 7 tandem parking spots outside of the Forbes Avenue entrance will be available for morning short-term Early Childhood student drop-off. A member of the maintenance team will be in this space each morning to assist with traffic flow.
  • Parents will be required to display their FAMILY NAME PLACARD on their dashboard when parking in these spaces. These will be sent home on the first day of school.
