Kevin Hengelbrok, Science and Engineering & Design Teacher
Mr. Hengelbrok’s classes are always hands-on.
“I know that students learn best when they are experiencing the science or the engineering.”
But a highlight for most of Mr. Hengelbrok’s students comes in 7th Grade Science, when classes regularly visit “the creek.” Through a partnership with Creek Connections, 7th Graders visit Panther Hollow Run in Schenley Park to investigate the health of the stream and ecosystem throughout the year. The students regularly visit the watershed to use water chemistry and collection kits, and compare their findings throughout the year.

“This creek project shows students the value of citizen scientists,” Mr. Hengelbrok said. “I’m glad I have the opportunity to share this project with them, and I appreciate that at St. Edmund’s Academy I’m always supported to try something new and more engaging.”
